Addressing Some FAQs:

Does Rolfing Hurt?

While Rolfing has gotten a bad reputation for being painful, Rolfing should not hurt. I find Rolfing works better when we work at your layer of availability. At this layer of work, your system is challenged enough to stay interested and feels safe enough to integrate that change. Please don’t grind your teeth to get through your session—I am eager to work with you to find your ever-changing layer of availability!

What Do I Wear to My Session?

These days, there is a wide range for what constitutes a “Rolfing uniform.” While historically Rolfing clients wore their underwear for sessions, the most important thing is that you wear something that is comfortable to you! Examples of new school Rolfing uniforms include exercise shorts, a sports bra, a t-shirt, tank top, your underwear, etc. Being nude is never an option for a Rolfing session—I’ll have you walking around the room, sitting on a bench, and potentially doing varied integrative movement work in addition to soft tissue manual therapy (table work).

Do I Have to Sign Up for a Ten Series?

No, you do not have to sign up for a Ten Series but you may find yourself wanting to! Though some clients may experience relief after one session, Rolfing navigates the experience of the whole system (read: body-mind)— because of this you will likely find lasting change from a series of sessions. Historically this has been in the form of a Ten Series but can be a single session, a series of three or thirteen sessions, or something else entirely depending on your goals and interest.

The Rolfing Ten Series is designed to systemically address a client’s whole system. If you are interested in what the Ten Series looks like from session to session, click here!
