Rolfing Ten Series
Rolfing Ten Series
The Rolfing® Ten Series is a semi-standardized “recipe” that helps systematically balance and optimize function (movement) and form (physical structure).
The Rolfing Structural Integration Ten Series is a key piece in differentiating Rolfing from other bodywork modalities. A Ten Series can be a transformational experience that addresses the whole body region by region. If you are craving change, freedom from pain, knowing your body better, wanting to move easier in space, or are person with a curious spirit, the Ten Series is a great adventure to embark on!
Rolfing Ten Series by Region and Goal:
Sleeve, Core, and Integration
Sleeve: Sessions 1-3
Session 1:
Opening space for the breath by working with the arms, chest, back, ribcage, and diaphragm. Begin working to open freedom in the pelvic girdle by working around the top of the leg and the hamstrings.
Session 2:
Establish a base of adaptable support by working with the feet and legs.
Session 3:
Start to find relationship and balance between the front and the back of the body by working with the whole side line of the body. This is a step in understanding how we relate segmentally and all the segments of self relate to gravity while standing.
Core: Sessions 4-7
Session 4:
Find a central channel of support by working the inner line of the leg and thigh starting at the medial arch of the foot to the base of the pelvis.
Session 5:
Find the core of the body through the front working to feel the front of the spine. We work abdominals, psoas, and may work into the chest in this session.
Session 6:
Work the back body—this can include any territory from the heel of the foot to the top of the back—to find the core.
Session 7:
Balance the neck and head on top of the rest of the body.
Integration: Sessions 8-10
Sessions 8 and 9:
In the final sessions, Rolfers and their clients work to integrate the changes that have been made into a congruent whole system. Sessions 8 and 9 are based on client need though Rolfers often work the lower half of the body in one session and the upper half in the other.
Session 10:
This is the final session to integrate the whole body to achieve universal balance and congruency in the client’s system.
It is recommended to have anywhere between one week and one month between your individual Ten Series sessions.
During this time it can be helpful to keep a journal, go on regular walks, or just take notice of your potentially changing form.
Once a client completes a Ten Series, it is generally recommended the client take a break from regular Rolfing sessions to live in and discover the extent of the new possibilities in their body! After a brief or extended break, Hope would be happy to continue your Rolfing experience with you!
